Call to Worship

with Evelyn M

The diverse group of disciples who shared all things in common – breaking bread and praying together, taking care of those in need, and telling everyone about the death & resurrection of Jesus Christ – formed the community that we know as the first church
Let us thank God for all the saints, including those who could not preach like Peter or pray like Paul, but led by the Spirit, told the love of Jesus and lived lives of hope that still bless us today.
For Mary, Jesus’ mother, who joined the community in prayer and waited with them for the Spirit,
We give you thanks, O God.
For the Ethiopian official, who asked questions about Jesus, was mentored by the disciple Philip, and asked to be baptized,
We give you thanks, O God.
For Matthais, who became the new apostle and confirmed his faith in the resurrection,
We give you thanks, O God.
For Lydia, who was judged to be a faithful servant of the Lord, and who used her gifts to help early Christians grow in faith,
We give you thanks, O God.
For all the witnesses, named and unnamed, who heard the good news and answered God’s call to share it and live it,
For all the saints, of our past and present, and by whom our lives are blessed, we give you thanks, O God. Amen.

Opening Hymn

Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee

United Methodist Hymnal #89
verses 1, 3 & 4

Verse 1
Joyful, joyful, we adore thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
hearts unfold like flowers before thee,
opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
drive the dark of doubt away.
Giver of immortal gladness,
fill us with the light of day!

Verse 3
Thou art giving and forgiving,
ever blessing, ever blest,
wellspring of the joy of living,
ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our brother,
all who live in love are thine;
teach us how to love each other,
lift us to the joy divine.

Verse 4
Mortals, join the mighty chorus
which the morning stars began;
love divine is reigning o’er us,
binding all within its span.
Ever singing, march we onward,
victors in the midst of strife;
joyful music leads us sunward,
in the triumph song of life.

Opening Prayer

with Ellie B

God of love, we are the community of life you gave to Jesus Christ, we thank you for all the work you sent him to do. Help us to pray together as the disciples did, waiting on the Spirit. Help us to act in love and unity so all may know that Jesus came, loving the world as you love him. Help us bring your justice to the powerless and your care to those without resources. In all things, we glorify your name, for we share in the glory of Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Song

Trust in You

by Lauren Daigle, Michael Farren & Paul Mabury
arranged by Dan Galbraith & Erik Foster

Verse 1
Letting go of ev’ry single dream,
I lay each one down at your feet.
Ev’ry moment of my wandering,
never changes what you see.
I’ve tried to win this war, I confess.
My hands are weary, I need your rest.
Mighty Warrior, King of the fight,
no matter what I face, you’re by my side.

Chorus
When you don’t move the mountains
I’m needing you to move,
when you don’t part the waters,
I wish I could walk through,
when you don’t give the answers as I cry out to you,
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in you.

Verse 2
Truth is, you know what tomorrow brings.
There’s not a day ahead you have not seen.
So in all things, be my life and breath.
I want what you want Lord, and nothing less.

Chorus

Tag
I will trust in you.

Bridge
You are my strength and comfort,
you are my steady hand.
You are my firm foundation,
the Rock on which I stand.
Your ways are always higher,
your plans are always good.
There’s not a place where I’ll go
you’ve not already stood.

Scripture Reading

with Stacy Colgan

John 17:1-11

After Jesus said this, he looked up to heaven and said,“Abba, the hour has come! Glorify your Only Begotten that I may glorify you, through the authority you’ve given me over all humankind, by bestowing eternal life on all those you gave me. And this is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent, Jesus, the Messiah. I have given you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. Now, Abba, glorify me with your own glory, the glory I had with you before the world began. Ihave manifested your Name to those you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me; and now they have kept your word. Now they know that everything you’ve entrusted to me does indeed come from you. I entrusted to them the message you entrusted to me, and they received it. They know that I really came from you; they believe it was you who sent me. And it’s for them that I pray—not for the world, but for these you’ve given me—for they are really yours, 10 just as all that belongs to me is yours, and all that belongs to you is mine. It is in them that I have been glorified. 11 I am in the world no more, but while I am coming to you, they are still in the world. Abba, holy God, protect those whom you have given me with your Name—the Name that you gave me—that they may be one, even as we are one.

Hymn of Response

Here I Am, Lord

UMH 593 verses 1-3

I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin.
My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Refrain
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

Verse 2
I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them.
They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my word to them.
Whom shall I send?

Refrain

Verse 3
I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide,
till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
Whom shall I send?

We Believe

by Matthew Hopper, Richie Fike & Travis Ryan

Verse 1
In this time of desperation,
when all we know is doubt and fear.
There is only one foundation:
we believe, we believe.
In this broken generation,
when all is dark you help us see.
There is only one salvation,
we believe, we believe.

Chorus 1
We believe in God, Creator,
we believe in Jesus Christ,
we believe in the Holy Spirit,
who’ve given us new life.
We believe in the crucifixion.
We believe that he conquer’d death.
We believe in the resurrection,
and he’s comin’ back again.
We believe.

Verse 2
So, let our faith be more than anthems,
greater than the songs we sing.
And in our weakness and temptations, we believe.
We believe!

Chorus 2
We believe in God, Creator,
we believe in Jesus Christ,
we believe in the Holy Spirit,
who’ve given us new life.
We believe in the crucifixion.
We believe that he conquer’d death.
We believe in the resurrection,
and he’s comin’ back again.

Bridge
Let the lost be found and the dead be raised
in the here and now let love invade.
Let the church live loud;
our God will say, “We believe, we believe.”
And the gates of hell will not prevail
for the pow’r of God has torn the veil.
Now we know your love will never fail.
We believe, we believe.

Chorus 3
We believe in God, Creator,
we believe in Jesus Christ,
we believe in the Holy Spirit,
who’ve given us new life.
We believe in the crucifixion.
We believe that he conquer’d death.
We believe in the resurrection,
and he’s comin’ back,

God, you are the source of all our gifts, we praise you and thank you for the joy of hospitality, the pleasure of feeding the hungry in your name, the delight of sharing the gifts of abundant life. Prepare us to feast in gladness at your table, abiding forever with you and all the saints. In the name of Jesus Christ, ascended and glorified we pray. Amen.

Song

Live Like That

by Ben McDonald & Ben Glover
arranged by Dan Galbraith & Lee Marcum

Verse 1
Sometimes I think, what will people say of me,
when I’m only just a memory
when I’m home where my soul belongs.
Was I love when no one else would show up?
Was I Jesus to the least of those,
was my worship more than just a song?

Chorus 1
I want to live like that and give it all I have,
so that ev’rything I say and do points to you.
If love is who I am, then this is where I’ll stand;
recklessly abandoned, never holding back.
I want to live like that, I want to live like that.

Verse 2
Am I proof that you are who you say you are,
that grace can really change a heart?
Do I live like your love is true?
People pass and even if they don’t know my name;
is there evidence that I’ve been changed
when they see me do they see you?

Chorus 2
I want to live like that and give it all I have,
so that ev’rything I say and do points to you.
If love is who I am, then this is where I’ll stand;
recklessly abandoned, never holding back.
I want to live like that, I want to live like

Bridge
I want to show the world the love you gave for me.
I’m longing for the world to know the glory of the King.

Chorus 1
