A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, will be Community Players’ 40th production.

Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (251–183 BC), the musical tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door.

A madcap and hilarious musical play where the focus is comedy and the jokes are 2000 years old…  The cast includes up to 15 named characters and a collection of Proteans, who are essentially the chorus.

This Community Players’ production will be directed by Graham Wills and the Musical Director will be Karen Binder.

Auditions will be held on Sunday, February 23, starting at 2:00 PM, and Monday, February 24, starting at 7:30 PM.  Interested actors need only attend one audition, but are welcome at both.  Auditions will consist of singing a prepared song (an accompanist will be provided) and cold readings from the script.

The cast will rehearse weekly on Sunday afternoons and Monday and Wednesday evenings, with the performances on May 9, 10, 11, 16, and 17.  Please bring all conflicts for the rehearsal schedule with you to auditions.
