Equally at home with classical, commercial, jazz, Jered Montgomery has made himself one of Chicago’s most diverse trumpeters in less than two years.

Bringing orchestral experience from playing principal trumpet in the Southern Illinois Symphony under Edward Benyas, Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra, Eastern Music Festival Faculty Orchestra under Gerard Schwarz, and the Carnegie Hall debut of the Southern Illinois Wind Ensemble under Christopher Morehouse, Montgomery feels comfortable in the Chicago orchestral scene. After moving to Chicago in the fall of 2009, Montgomery has played with such groups as the nationally acclaimed Chicago Chamber Orchestra under Deiter Kober, the Oak Park Symphony under Jay Friedman, and the Roosevelt Symphony under Stephen Squires, Jonathan McPhee, and Leslie Dunner.

In the summertime, Jered juggles teaching and playing at such festivals as Domaine Forget Academy in St. Irenee, Quebec where he sat principal/solo trumpet. Montgomery attended the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina receiving the Brass Festival Award for Excellence in Orchestral Studies. Jered has played the Southern Illinois Music Festival with The New Chicago Chamber Orchestra in Carbondale, IL for the past 6 years.

In jazz, Montgomery has played under the guidance of Chicago jazz legends Rob Parton and Tom Garling in the Roosevelt Big Band. In 2013, Jered performed with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra under Irving Mayfield with great musicians such as Allan Toussaint, Orbert Davis, and Kurt Elling.

Jered performed 4 years in the Southern Illinois Studio Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Tyler Kuebler (Airmen of Note-Lead Alto) and Tim Pitchford (KC and the Sunshine Band).

Montgomery has performed in pit orchestras for countless productions.

Recent productions include: Assassins – Kokandy Productions, How To Succeed in Business – Porchlight Music Theater, A Musical Tribute to the Andrews Sisters – Theo Ubique, Hairspray – Getz Theater, A Tale of Two Cities – Jetlica Performing Arts. Southern Illinois McLeod Summer Playhouse (Carbondale, IL) shows include: Les Miserables, Sweet Charity, Beauty and the Beast, Cats, The Full Monty, Little Women, The Wizard of Oz, Annie Get Your Gun, West Side Story, Sweeny Todd, Bye Bye Birdie, The Drowsy Chaperone and Showboat.

Playing solo literature isn’t out of Montgomery’s vocabulary either. In the 2006-07 season of the Southern Illinois Symphony, he performed John Adams’ Tromba Lontana, a duet with his former teacher, Dr. Robert Allison for the celebration of the composer’s birthday. Jered won the 2006-07 Southern Illinois University Wind Ensemble Annual Concerto Competition .

Jered has performed several times with the Chicago-based acoustic rock band, Band Called Catch at such venues as the House of Blues, Congress Theater, Hard Rock Café, Double Door, and Webster Hall-NYC to name a few. More information about Band Called Catch can be found at www.bandcalledcatch.com.
