Guest Choir: Chapel Choir of Downers Grove First United Methodist Church
Our Guest Choir on Pentecost Sunday is the Chapel Choir of Downers Grove First United Methodist Church. The Chapel Choir has led Sunday worship at the 9:30 am service during the school year since 1960. For the past 42 years, the choir has participated on a week-long Spring Break musical mission trip spreading God’s message in word and song to congregations throughout North America. Over the years, the choir has also appeared on television and sung at the Northern Illinois Conference, as well as other sporting and community events.
Despite ever-increasing demands on their time, choir members practice Wednesday nights and Sundays after worship in preparation for the Christmas concert and tour. Members also give generously of their time via fundraising and mission activities at church and most are involved in numerous school activities, including athletics, speech, band, choir and dance. More than 40 youth earned credits toward tour and mission trip through the Youth InTent program by delivering chairs and tables and set ting up tents for graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions. The 2014 Tour Choir is composed of students from eight different high schools: Downers Grove North, Naperville Central, Downers Grove South, Naperville North, Hinsdale Central, Timothy Christian, Lisle and Westmont.
