The Sojourners Forum Sunday School class is making plans for their annual winter retreat on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 7:30 am to noon.    This year the group has chosen “Next Year Jerusalem” a powerful documentary of eight nursing home residents who make a pilgrimage to Israel during the final chapter of their lives.

We learned about this film from our own Chris Garofalo who composed original music for the score.  The movie chronicles the 10-day tour of the group as they travel within Israel and visit various landmarks.   As the director indicates, “Next Year Jerusalem” is less a story about tourists in a foreign land than it is a meditation on the sanctity of human experience and a tribute to the wisdom acquired in the course of a lifetime…It is a true exploration of living and dying, hope and fear, travel and memory”.

Our day will begin with a pancake breakfast at 7:30 am followed by a viewing of the film at 8:00 am.  The run time of the film is 72 minutes after which we will have an opportunity to Skype with the director David Gaynes.  Although this is a Sojourners Forum event, the class has put forth an open invitation to others who may want to attend and take part in this important opportunity.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Joyce Brunsting who is coordinating the food for the retreat.
