Hello to everyone,
I hope to see everyone bundled up and ready to talk at the next STARS meeting at Community United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 9.  We start gathering at about 1:15pm and start the service at 1:30pm.  If you are coming just for the support groups, those start at 2pm.  It would be helpful to us if you could RSVP your attendance prior to Thursday.

January 1 marked the beginning of the New Year and an opportunity for new beginnings.  In our STARS (Spiritual Time And Renewal after Stroke) we will use this theme for contemplation during our service Thursday, January 9 from 1;30-2pm and for discussion during our support groups from 2-3pm.

In the recent Newsletter from Joan Guest, MSW, LCSW with Samaritan Interfaith, she writes the following:

Most New Year’s resolutions are just set-ups for disappointments. Telling yourself that you are going to exercise daily or lose 50 lbs by July can lead to an almost immediate sense of failure. Perhaps better are resolutions that focus on values or commitments.

We want to use our time together on Thursday to take a closer look into our existing values and commitments to each other, caregivers and survivors as well.  As Joan goes on to say, “This year, like the last one, is a gift from God.  (We need to) Make the most of it”

Caregivers, survivors and interested others are invited to join us to talk about faith, frustrations, and fun; to ask questions and offer tips and news to others.  Come for a break, to meet others in the same situation, or just to laugh and share.

Please call the church office or contact me by email if you have questions or need additional information.

I have attached the newsletter from Joan Guest for your review.  It has some good tips for caregivers.
