In this current climate of division and discord, join us as we are led by Tish Calhamer in a discussion about how to communicate with people who have different opinions from yours. Learn techniques on how to have civil conversations.

Tish is the Community Engagement Manager for Gail Borden Public Library District. She is also a facilitator for Illinois Speaks, an organization that provides resources to support monthly small group discussions within communities throughout the state.

This timely discussion will include:

  1. The current climate of division and discord and how it affects interpersonal relationships
  2. Verbal cues, keeping your emotions in check, diplomatic phrasing, de-personalizing, and more
  3. How to have civil conversations in a public seing—not as hard as you might think
  4. How to have civil conversations with family members—a difficult task—there’s hope and help!
  5. Techniques—invitational inquiry, talking sticks, etc.
