A couple of weeks ago, members of CUMC were invited to consider being part of a team to further the goals of the June 2016 Liberia mission trip. This group is part of a larger group being established at CUMC called the “Vision Statement Activists.† This group is being established to focus the church on living our church mission statement.
CUMC Vision Statement:
As a congregation with open hearts, open minds, and open doors, our welcome knows no boundaries of age, race, ethnicity, culture, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, economic condition, physical or mental ability.
Over the coming year this new group will focus on two aspects of our vision statement:
- Sexual orientation and gender identity
- Race and Ethnicity
Persons interested in the first aspect, sexual orientation and gender identity, will be continuing the work of the (now disbanded) Reconciling Core Team. The areas of focus will be, fundraising and planning of events for Reconciling Ministry Network (RMN) causes, educational materials, continuing ministry to the people in West Africa, and taking care of proper signage in the church.
Persons interested in the second aspect, race and ethnicity would focus on race relations and education. This may include book studies, purchase educational materials and planning of events such as interfaith/interracial  gatherings.
While the Vision Statement Activists groups will focus on two aspects of our vision statement, you need only be called to one of these causes to participate. Please prayerfully consider if either of these focus areas speak to you. If so, please contact please contact June Green at 630 820 2513, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
