Special Church Conference
As was announced in worship on Sunday, July 16, 2023, the church’s boiler system has failed, leaving us without heat going into the cold season of the year. Under the leadership of the Trustees, a task force has been brought together to explore all of the possible solutions that we might have in order to address the church’s HVAC system.
During a joint meeting with the Trustees, Finance Committee, and Building Committee, it was decided that we needed to have a Church Conference in order to address the financial commitment that it will take to install a new system.
The purpose of this Special Church Conference has one agenda item and will be overseen by Retired NICUMC Elder, Rev. Duane Mevis. The motion that was voted upon during the above meeting reads as follows:
- Whereas: the church’s current boiler system has now completely failed; and
- Whereas: there is a need for a new HVAC system which cannot be funded by the Basic Ministry Budget; and
- Whereas: the new HVAC system is necessary and is an immediate maintenance item;
- Therefore: The CUMC Board of Trustees so moves and recommends that CUMC solicits a minimum of three bids to respond to the boiler failure, that the financial leadership and the pastor respond to those bids with meetings with the District Superintendent and the CUMC congregation, that the approval from these groups authorizes the seeking of a bank loan sufficient to respond to the accepted bid, and not to exceed $800,000, for the purpose of repairing the boiler failure.
All members of CUMC are invited to attend this Special Conference in order to address this motion on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 11:30 am in the church sanctuary.
Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach to myself or a member of the trustees.
Many blessings, and I look forward to your presence at this special conference.
