The Gratitude Path
When setting out on a course, we first turn to some type of map to get a sense of direction. Hikers can often relate to a trail that can be long and full of hard terrain. They will train for many hours, days, weeks and even months in order to face the rough terrain that they might encounter on that trail. When they hit the trail, they are fully prepared with all of the necessary provisions and equipment that is needed to succeed. A good hiker will also keep in mind the need for setting a pace that allows them to navigate the trail without burning out too quickly.
As we look towards the early followers of Jesus, we find the disciples and these words from Jesus, “follow me.” Where were these disciples headed in life? One can be assured that it would certainly lead to a path that was full of uncertainties and adventures that would test them to their very core. On the other hand, the adventure with Jesus would certainly be packed full of excitement and awe inspiring experiences that would lead them to a place of spreading the message of Jesus to all they encountered.
Through the model of Jesus, we see a life that is full of gratitude and full of unconditional love – certainly a life that progressed quickly along a path
that would set the standard for his believers. Five thousand people once gathered to hear Jesus preach. As the day progressed, the people grew more and more hungry. Through the gift of a young boy with five loaves and two fish, Jesus sets the stage by pausing to give thanks to God for all that has been provided.
Through Community UMC’s worship and small group series, The Gratitude Path, we will discover how to live a life that is full of gratitude. From week to week, we will discover trailheads that help guide us along this path of being grateful with genuine biblical gratitude.Ready | Set | Go! We are set for a great adventure together!
