Susan Keaton will lead a discussion on The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See. The book is set on the South Korean island of JeJu and follows Mi-ja and Young-sook, two girls from different backgrounds, who become undersea divers with the village’s all-female diving team. The story is based on a real group known as the Haenyeo. From the 1930s through the Korean War, to the era of wetsuits and cell phones, the two women become close friends until unseen forces push their relationship to the breaking point.
