United Women in Faith Thank Offering
As has become our tradition at Community, United Women in Faith will be celebrating Thank Offering on Mother’s Day. It is a special offering to say thanks to God for the blessings that have been bestowed upon us.
It honors our foremothers who on March 23, 1869, told six other women about the desperate health care and educational needs of women in India. Those women organized one of our predecessor organizations and raised the funds to send Isabelle Thoburn, a teacher, and Clara Swain, a doctor to India to alleviate those needs. The Isabelle Thoburn College is still teaching young women in India today.
Our gifts continue to make lives better for women, children, and youth at home and around the world. They are used in fighting for justice for everyone, climate justice, and ending the school-to-prison pipeline so many people of color fall into. They are used to provide education. They are used to send missionaries. They are used to train women to be leaders in their communities and the world.
If you wish to be a part of these endeavors, please make your check out to UMW (still our legal name) for Sunday’s offering or visit our donation page here. Thank you.
