Community UMC welcomes all of God’s beloved children to grow in relationship with each other as they experience and live Scripture through words, emotion, symbols, and action.
Children are important in the life of the church. Through worship, children are nourished in their faith and their relationship with God. Your active participation and enthusiasm are absorbed by our young ones as they begin to see how their story fits into the big picture in Christ.
Worship & Child Care
The nursery is currently open from 8:30am until noon for infants through Pre-K age children.
Children are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in worship with their families! Sing, dance, pray, read, and serve! 2nd graders and up can help as acolytes during our Traditional Service. And families can help as greeters, ushers, and communion servers throughout the year.
We also offer a special area near the front of our sanctuary called the “Pray Ground” where children can be creative with art and tactile activities during the service. We also offer worship bags for children to take to their pews, if they prefer. Bags can be found in the back of the sanctuary.
Childcare
The Nursery Ministry provides loving, nurturing care for Community UMC’s youngest preparatory members and visitors. The nursery staff and volunteers help children experience God’s love as they are given nurturing care and affection in a loving Christian environment. Developmentally appropriate toys and activities guide their learning as they play. Our goal is to make church experiences for the very youngest child a positive, loving and fun experience from the very first day.
Pre-K and under are welcomed by experienced caregivers each week. Paid caregivers are assisted by adult and youth volunteers in providing the ministries to our youngest children. Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings from 8:30am to noon and during many evening activities and meetings upon request.
Sunday School
During the school year, Sunday school is offered from 10am – 10:55am.
Older Elementary: 3rd – 5th grade students (gather first in Room 207, before going to Room 205)
Preschool Sunday School: toddlers – Pre-K students (meet in the nursery, Room 104)
Early Elementary: Kindergarten – 2nd grade students (Room 207)
Registration & Gathering
Parents/Guardians must fill out a current registration form for each student attending CUMC child/youth programs. Forms are available here.
All of our teachers and assistants have received Safe Sanctuary screening and training. Students from preschool to middle school need to be signed in and out of Sunday School. Preschool sign-in is in the nursery, elementary sign-in is outside the chapel on the second floor hallway, and middle school sign-in is in Room 306.
Room Assignments
Elementary-age children gather in Room 207, before being dismissed to their respective classrooms. Their sign-in roster can be found in the second-floor hallway, near the education-wing entrance. At 10:55am, parents can pick-up and sign-out their students from their respective classrooms.
Early Elementary (K – 2nd grade) can be picked up from Room 207, and Older Elementary (3rd – 5th grade) can be picked up from Room 205.
Written permission may be given for someone other than a legal parent or guardian to pick up children from Sunday School. Consent forms are available here and at the sign-in table on Sunday mornings.
There is no Sunday school on Sundays when we gather at our OneCUMC worship service.
