Drew Jones Marquez

Director of Contemporary Worship

Drew Jones Marquez is excited to serve as the Director of Contemporary Worship at Community UMC. A lifelong musician and worship leader, Drew’s journey began on the South Side of Chicago, where he nurtured his passion for music and ministry. His education includes a degree from Roosevelt University and ongoing studies at Loyola University Chicago’s Institute of Pastoral Studies, with a focus on divinity.

Drew has an extensive background in both education and ministry. A former lead vocalist in the United States Air Force’s regional band, he has a rich history in music and performance, having composed over fifty original songs and performed for audiences of over 1.5 million people, including at the Apollo Theatre. His diverse experiences also include roles as an educator, principal, and instructional coach, where he has fostered environments that promote equity, student engagement, and community involvement. He has served in multiple leadership roles in ministries from Tokyo, Japan to Dayton, OH. However, Chicago is where his heart became rooted for queer-inclusive ministry and has since centered on empowerment and cultivating a space where everyone can deepen their relationship with God.

As Drew takes on his role at Community UMC, he brings a unique blend of musical expertise, leadership, and a deep commitment to fostering a grace-filled, welcoming environment for all. He is passionate about guiding the young and seasoned through authentic worship and spiritual growth, empowering all to encounter God in meaningful ways. Drew is supported by his spouse Zuqy, their six beautiful children and a bossy corgi-huahua named Alpha.
